Two policemen wounded

Two Sri Lankan Policemen were shot and seriously wounded by gunmen suspected to be Liberation Tigers this afternoon around 1.30 p.m. near the Kerniyadi Vairavar temple on Aadiapaatham road in Thirunelvely near Jaffna town.
The wounded policemen, Gunaratna 28, and Harischandra, 39 are attached to the Police station in Kopay. The group that shot and grievously wounded the two constables had got away from the scene before the Police and the SLA cordoned off the area said sources. Thirunelvely east and west were cordoned off and searched by the army and Police following the incident. A shop owner and his father were taken away by the army for questioning and are yet to be released said Police sources in Jaffna. The wounded Policemen have been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Jaffna hospital.
