Unidentified persons without uniform posing as personnel of Criminal
Investigation Department arrest heads of IDP families who have been
resettled in their own villages after detention in camps located in
Vavuniyaa. These persons do not provide receipts to their relatives
when they remove heads of their families, complained
Mr. K. Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district Tamil National Alliance
(TNA) parliamentarian, in parliament Tuesday.
He added that CID personnel in civil enter houses of resettled
families in their villages and take them into their custody under the
pretext of inquiry, causing fear and tension to their kith and kin. Their relatives are in dark where the persons are detained after the
arrest. Police of the area ask them to make complaints regarding these
arrests. But they are reluctant to make complaints to the police
fearing harassment and to safeguard their lives. The government should take immediate steps to allow resettled families to live peacefully without fear or intimidation, he said
