More than 600 IDPs brought to Jaffna detained in Thenmaraadchi camp

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) authorities in Jaffna have detained nearly 600 persons among the Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) brought to Jaffna from Vavuniyaa camps Tuesday night and held in Duraippah Stadiu, in Kodikaamam Raamaavil camp, as there were no relatives to take responsibility of them, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, the Ambassadors of foreign countries in Sri Lanka who visited Jaffna Wednesday met the IDPs held in Kodikaamam Raamaavil camp, the sources added.
1672 persons of 558 families who had been refused permission to enter Jaffna by the SLA were brought to Jaffna Tuesday night and held in Duraippah Stadium. Though the handing over of the above persons to their relatives continued until Wednesday night 600 of them were taken to Raamaavil camp by the SLA to be detained as they had no relatives to take responsibility of them. Among the 1445 persons of 425 families brought to Jaffna from Vavuniyaa camp some had been handed over to their relatives in Jaffna. Sri Lanka government continues to bring Jaffna IDPs in Vavuniyaa camps to Jaffna.
