Attacks on JVP political offices continue, A’pura office ransacked

Supporters of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) are on the rampage in several areas in the south attacking offices of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) since the latter extended its full support to General Sarath Fonseka, who is to contest as the common opposition candidate in the forthcoming presidential election. Submission of nominations by registered political parties is to begin on December 17 and the election is fixed for January 26.

Latest attack on the JVP office took place Saturday night at Anuradhapura in the North Central Province.

An unidentified group of persons suspected to be UPFA supporters entered the office around 11 pm and caused severe damage to the furniture and ransacked it, according to a complaint made by the JVP north central provincial councilor Anura Dissanayake to the Anuradhapura Police.

Earlier JVP supporters were arrested by the police while they were putting up posters in support of General Fonseka’s candidature in Moneragala and Colombo.
