ITAK engaged in setting up offices in Jaffna peninsula

Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) is actively engaged in opening its offices in various parts of Jaffna peninsula and the first office was opened Thursday in Pa’ndaitharippu, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, it is reported that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) stands split into two factions - one which constitutes of former TNA Jaffna parliamentarians and the other which includes new comers to the election arena, the sources added.

Professor R. Sivachandran, who is contesting as an ITAK candidate along with Saravanabavan, manger of Uthayan and Chudaro’li Jaffna dailies, Professor. K. Sittampalam and Maavai Senathirajah took part in the opening of Pa’ndaitharippu office.

ITAK intends opening its branches in other areas in the peninsula, the sources added.

When TNA expressed its intention of opening an office in New Delhi Tamil circles in Jaffna peninsula had wanted to know why TNA which was yet to open a permanent branch in Jaffna was keen on opening one in New Delhi, the sources further said.

Meanwhile, ITAK said that the offices are not being opened for the purpose of parliamentary election campaign but to serve the people even after the election.

Election campaign activities in the peninsula have not picked up moment but remain at a dull level. It is expected to happen after the 20th March, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Eelam Democratic People’s Party (EPDP) is divided on the issue of preferential votes, according to independent sources.

This is most evident in the coastal areas of Jaffna town including Paasaiyoor, Kurunakar and Kozhumpuththu’rai where a Municipal Council member is said to be working only in favour of some of the EPDP candidates.
