Post-election related violence continues in South, one killed

A supporter of ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) was
killed Tuesday night at Anamaduwa (Aanaimadu) in Puththa'lam district in the north
western province. The victim identified as a 19-year-old youth
was killed by supporters of a defeated candidate from the same party,
police said.
Hospital sources said the victim was cut and clubbed to death by a
gang said to be supporters of the candidate who was elected from the
Puththa'lam district on the ruling UPFA ticket by polling more
preferential votes Hundreds of villagers on the traditional New Year Day Wednesday,
around noon held a demonstration condemning the killing and demanding
that culprits behind the killing should be arrested. The traffic along
Kurunagala-Puththa'lam highway came to a standstill due to the protest.
