Three men from South staying in a house in Chu’ndikku’li area in Jaffna were taken into custody by Jaffna police Thursday on suspicion of involvement in the recent abductions for ransom and killings in Jaffna peninsula on a secret tipoff given by neighbours, sources in Jaffna said. A motor mechanic and an electrician from Navaali abducted Wednesday for ransom were found locked in the said house by the police and were handed over to their families Thursday. The police also discovered blood stains in the house and suspect that the elderly man recovered dead in Kachcheariyadi Wednesday may have been killed in the same house and later dumped in another house in the neighbourhood.
The police found the abducted motor mechanic and the electrician locked up in separate rooms with their hands and feet bound and mouths stuffed with cloth in the said house. Local residents said that there were no human presence or activity in the house during daytime but they had heard persons crying in pain during nights. The further said that many vehicles came and went during night time. The owner of the house, located on Subas Veethi in Chu’ndikku’li, said that he had rented the house to three persons from the South who said they had come to Jaffna to do business. Local residents suspect that the said men from South, along with local persons who work for Sri Lanka Intelligence Unit and Sri Lanka Army, were able to move unrestricted during the nights and to abduct or kill persons for ransom.
