Rajapakse to attend Bhutan SAARC summit

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse is to leave for Thimpu, capital of Bhutan Monday to attend the sixteenth South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit. The SL delegation includes the new Foreign Minister G.L.Peiris and Foreign Secretary Romesh Jayasinghe, according to political sources in Colombo. The SAARC summit is scheduled to be held from April 28 and 29.
Heads of state and government of all eight member states of the SAARC Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will attend the 16th summit. The 32nd session of the SAARC Council of Ministers at Foreign Minister's level will be held on 27th April, the 37th Session of the Standing Committee at Foreign Secretaries level will be convened from 25th to 26th April.
