Dengue Control Week to be launched in Sri Lanka

The `Dengue Control Week' is to be launched in the country from May 3
to 9 to warn the public of possible outbreak with the onset of
monsoonal rains, according to Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry press
release. The number of dengue deaths reported this year from January
to April is seventy-five and over twelve thousand dengue cases
reported island wide, Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry
Epidemiology Unit, Director Dr. (Ms) Paba Palihawadana said.
Presently every week between 350 and 400 dengue cases are
reported in Sri Lanka. Jaffna so far has reported 16 deaths, Colombo
15 and Batticaloa 9. There were 44 dengue deaths and 4,672 patients
reported in January this year. In February 4,542 patients and 13
deaths were reported. The number of dengue patients reported in March
is 2,522 and there were 15 deaths, she said.
