Batticaloa’s police intelligence officers demoted
[TamilNet, Monday, 12 July 2010, 22:18 GMT]
The police intelligence unit attached to the Batticaloa police has been demoted with immediate effect for involvement in arresting large numbers of 'terrorism' suspects, and a new set of officers have been appointed in the vacated positions, Sri Lanka Sinhala daily Lankadeepa reported. The affected officers were attached to ten different intelligence units across Batticaloa district, the paper noted.
The demotion to junior level took effect on July 10th, while all the vacated positions have been filled with new officers. The demoted officers are currently serving in junior positions across the same police stations. Lankadeepa, however, did not explicitly give details for the demotion but noted that the officers who were demoted had been instrumental in apprehending a large number of persons.
