Sri Lanka cabinet's next stop, Ambilipitiya

Sri Lanka Government has decided to hold the next out station Cabinet meeting in Ambilipitiya, the Lankadeepa newspaper said Friday. This follows this week’s Cabinet meeting held in Ki'linochchi, the former headquarters of the LTTE. The significance of holding cabinet meetings in cities across the country is to primarily showcase the fact that Colombo, Sri Lanka's commercial capital, is not the only place where decisions with regard to the country’s upliftment are taken, according to the paper.

Accordingly all development projects with regard to the Ambilipitiya area will be taken during the forthcoming Cabinet meeting to be held there, the paper said quoting parliamentary sources.

The Sri Lankan Presidential Secretariat has already sent out communiqués to all cabinet ministers informing that their presence in these outstation cabinet meetings are ‘imperative.’

The communiqué has also informed the ministers that holding such meetings in various parts of Sri Lanka also gives both the ministers and even Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who chairs the Cabinet meetings, an opportunity to closely interact with members of the public who live in these areas, the paper said.
