2 Tamil opposition MPs join SL government

Praba Ganeshan, Colombo district parliamentarian of the Democratic Peoples Front (DPF) and P.Digambaram, parliamentarian of Workers National Congress representing Nuwareliya district Thursday joined the ruling United Peoples Front Alliance (UPFA) after meeting Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse at Temple Trees, according to President’s media unit. Praba Ganesan and P. Digambaram later crossed over to the government side in Parliament Thursday afternoon.

Praba Ganeshan is the younger brother of Mano Ganeshan, the leader of the DPF, who had lost his seat in the last general election contesting the Kandy district.

DPF, however, said in a statement that it has not been informed by party member Praba Ganeshan that he had joined the government.

DPF leader Mano Ganeshan, who is on a visit abroad told Colombo media that Praba Ganeshan had met Sri Lanka President only to handover some party proposals.

Meanwhile, Praba Ganeshan is reported to have told Colombo media that it is difficult to serve the Tamil people being in the opposition so he decided to join the government. He added that he had informed his brother and DPF leader Mano Ganesan of his crossover and that Mano Ganesan had not objected to it.

Digambaram also told media that he crossed over to the government side to work for the betterment of the plantation Tamils.
