Rajapakse, Wickremesinghe meet, discuss proposed constitutional reforms
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 10 August 2010, 18:04 GMT]
Talks between Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse and Ranil
Wickremesinghe, the leader of the main opposition United National
Party (UNP) resumed Tuesday morning unexpectedly. Both met at the
Presidential Secretariat and discussed about the proposed
constitutional reforms, informed sources said.
The UNP last week decided to abandon the talks with Rajapakse
following the cross over of two UNP parliamentarians Praba Ganeshan
and P. Digambaram to the government ranks against the assurance given
by the President that he would not accommodate any cross over from the
opposition ranks. The meeting between Rajapakse and Wickremesinghe Tuesday came as a surprise to the rank and file of the UNP and the
government, political sources said.
