Hundreds of students, government officers and public gathered in front of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Point Pedro bus depot Tuesday around 10:00 a.m in protest against Sri Lanka government for its poor public transport service in Jaffna peninsula, sources in Point Pedro said. The protesters shut the gates of the bus depot allowing none to enter or leave the building. Point Pedro police, informed of the picketing, forcibly opened the gates and chased the protesters away. The protest against Sri Lanka government will continue until the public transport services are satisfactory, the protesters said.
Though Sri Lanka government maintains that normalcy is restored in Jaffna peninsula its public transport services are disorderly and poor. New buses are not allocated to Jaffna peninsula and millions of rupees allocated for the reparation of buses have been swindled by corrupt politicians, the protesters said. The SLTB bus depot in Point Pedro is located on Jaffna Point Pedro road.
