Protest in London against India’s Operation Green Hunt

Alliance for People’s Right in South Asia has called for demonstration at the Indian High Commission in London on India’s independence day, August 15, protesting the murder of Communist Party of India (Maoist) Polit Bureau member and Central Committee spokesperson Azad along with Delhi-based journalist Hem Chandra Pandey by Andhra Police in July. Indian Workers Association (GB), Progressive Nepalese Society UK and British-South Asia Solidarity Forum have called for the demonstration, demanding judicial enquiry, immediate stop of extra-judicial killings, respect for fundamental rights, media freedom, end of war against people, withdrawal of armed forces and MoUs with corporates and attention to the demands of the people of Kashmir and Northeast India.

According to official accounts the Indian government has deployed 150,000 troops in India’s central and eastern states for Operation Green Hunt, but independent observers place the number at 250,000, and this is more than US troops in Afghanistan, says Alliance for People’s Rights in South Asia.

All over India arrests, detentions and disappearances have increased to alarming levels since the people began resisting the corporate takeover of India, the alliance said.
