Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by the Sri
Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been asked by the main
opposition United National Party (UNP) to summon G.L.Peiris, Milinda
Moragoda and Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman to get a
balanced view of the peace process during the 2002 cease fire period
under the then UNP government.
The incumbent Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister Peiris, Milinda Moragoda were ministers in the then UNP government and Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna said UNP spokesman Ravi Karunanayake at a media briefing held Friday. The UNP has make this request to the LLRC as the LLRC appeared to be have taken a stand on slandering the UNP on the negative sides of the peace process, Karunanayake said. He added the Commission should summon Prof. Peiris and Mr. Moragoda
before it as at the time they were peace architects. Since they have now joined the government, the Commission cannot ignore them.
