Batticaloa district TNA parliamentarians asked to appear in court

Batticaloa Magistrate Mr.V. Ramakamalan Tuesday issued notice to
the three Batticaloa district Tamil National Alliance (TNA)
parliamentarians C. Yogeswaran, K. Selvarajah and P. Ariyanethran
and two others, R.Thurairatnam, member of the Eastern Provincial
Council and the President of the Batticaloa District Unemployed
Graduates Association, to appear in court on September 7 on an
application filed by Kaatththaankudi police.
The Police told the court that the above mentioned persons had organized a
protest demonstration 11 August without police permission Wednesday. The demonstrators caused obstruction to traffic on the public road affecting persons including patients in critical condition, according to the case filed against the demonstators by Kaaththaankudi police. The unemployed graduates in Batticaloa district had marched in a protest demonstration organizesd by Batticaloa district Unemployed Graduates Association demanding immediate employment, from Peachchiayamman temple to Batticaloa district government secretariat. There are 1550 unemployed graduates in Batticaloa district, 1300 in Ampaa'rai district and 525 in Trincomalee districts, between the ages 40 to 45, the association said in its memorandum submitted to Eastern Provincial Council. Meanwhile, civil society circles in Eastern Province complained that police authorities obstruct marches and demonstrations launched by the public, student organizations and trade unions to bring their grievences to the notice of the relevant authorities.
