Sri Lanka Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiyutheen, paid a sudden visit to Mannaar government hospital 10 August where he visited the patients admitted with dengue fever. The minister blamed the officials in Mannaar Town Council responsible for the prevention of dengue fever for their carelessness and said that officials who fail to perform their duties should quit their posts, sources in Mannaar said.
The minister spoke to the doctors in charge of the hospital to find out the immediate needs of the hospital. He was told that there was no x-ray machine in the hospital and there was a shortage of doctors. Rishad Bathiyutheen assured the hospital administration that he will take immediate steps to have an x-ray machine installed and to appoint additional doctors. Sri Lanka government had declared the third week of August National Dengue Prevention Week, as dengue cases spike during the months-long monsoon season.
