President Rajapaksa presides Defence Ministry consultative meeting

Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday chaired the consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Defence in Parliament. He is the Minister of Defence. Commanders of the three armed forces, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force attended the meeting.

This was the first consultative committee meeting of the Ministry of Defence held after the verdict of First Court Martial against Sarath Fonseka.

First Court Martial after inquiry found Fonseka guilty of involving in politics while in service as the Commander of Sri Lanka Army and imposed punishment on him stripping all medals, promotions and other facilities.

Later Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse ratified the sentence.

The Sri Lanka Army has declared that Fonseka should not be addressed as General in future anywhere.
