Policeman's gun snatched in Batticaloa

Two unidentified men on motorcycle snatched away a T56 type gun from a police sergeant who was on his way to Batticaloa railway station for duty Friday around 7:30 p.m, sources in Batticaloa said. Special Task Force (STF) commandos and police rounded up Paarathipuram and conducted a house to house search in an attempt to find the gun said to be hidden in a house in the area.
STF and police jointly set up new check posts and road blocks in Batticaloa town Sunday and checked all pedestrians and passengers in the vehicles. People and vehicles travelling along Vaazhaichcheanai and Kalmunai main roads from Batticaloa town too were subjected to severe checking. Tension and fear prevail among the residents of Batticaloa following the incident.
