80% of resettled families in Batticaloa not paid livelihood assistance

Around eighty percent of resettled people in Batticaloa district
have not been paid their livelihood assistance of twenty-five thousand
rupees. Others were not paid a single cent as livelihood assistance
they are entitled at the time of resettlement, according to Batticaloa
district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian
Pon. Selvarajah.
Thirty six thousand one hundred and eighty one (36,181) families had
been resettled in the district. Only 7267 families have received the
livelihood assistance. The rest are undergoing untold hardships in
running their day to day live, he added. Not a single resettled family in the villages that comes under the
administration of Ki'raan, Kokkaddichcholai, Vavu'natheevu and Chengkaladi
divisional offices has been paid livelihood assistance, he
pointed out. He further said 1066 uprooted families from Vanni and resettled in
Batticaloa district also have not been paid any livelihood
assistance.
