Wimal Weerawansa, Russian Ambassador visit Jaffna

Wimal Weerawansa, Sri Lanka minister of Housing and Common Amenities, accompanied by the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, visited Jaffna Tuesday morning preceding India’s Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao who was expected in Jaffna Friday evening, sources in Jaffna said. Wimal Weerawansa and the Russian Ambassador returned to Colombo Friday evening after participating in some events in Jaffna peninsula.
Wimal Weerawansa and the Russian Ambassador first visited Jaffna Public Library and then the Sri Lanka National Housing Authority office in Jaffna. Weerawansa handed the deeds of the houses built by Sri Lanka government in Naavatkuli and other places twenty years ago and not given to the people, to recipients selected by his housing authority. Speaking on the occasion Weerawansa said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka Armed Forces had defeated ‘terrorism’ and accused Sarath Fonseka for claiming credit for it. Weerawansa further claimed that Sri Lanka government enjoys two thirds majority in the Parliament and that it was the only government that can solve the problems of the Tamils. He called upon the Tamils lend support to it.
