V.S.Radhakrishnan, Nuwara Eliya district parliamentarian of the Ceylon
Workers’ Congress (CWC) told Saturday that he leaves his party and
will sit as an independent member in parliament and support the
government led by Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse. Earlier
there was speculation in political circles that he would join the
Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) to fill the post of leader of the UPF
with the demise of its founder leader Periyasamay Chandrasekaran.
Mr.Radhakrishnan dismissed that report and said he was asked by the
wife of late Chandrasekaran to take over the leadership but he
declined to accept that offer. However the leadership of the CWC had
misunderstood him and neglected to his request for a Deputy Minister
post in the UPFA government. He said that the CWC has been neglecting his request for a Deputy
Ministerial post. .V.S. Radhakrishnan is a CWC member who successfully
contested under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) at the
last General Elections.
