Six persons were wounded and one killed when a bomb exploded at a sentry of the PLOTE's main camp at Kovilkulam in Vavuniya this morning around 8. 10 a.m. Four among the wounded were civilians taking part in a bicycle race. The person who was killed was identified as Mayilvaganam Chandramohan, 13, a civilian from Kovilkulam.
Sources said that the wounded were rushed to the Vavuniya hospital from the paramilitary group's camp in Kovilkulam, a highly defended suburb of the town. Four of the wounded civilians and a PLOTE cadre, Vinthan, 19, were rushed to the Anuradhapura general hospital later this morning. Police sources in Vavuniya said that a claymore mine at the sentry of the Kovilkulam PLOTE camp appears to have exploded causing the carnage.
