LTTE and SLA clash at Amban

The Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lanka Army clashed at Amban in Vadamaradchi east at around 7 p.m. yesterday evening. Sources said that the fighting lasted for almost an hour.
The Army cordoned off Kudaththanai and Amban this morning and conducted search operations. It is not yet known if any arrests were made. The SLA said two LTTE members were wounded in the clash and that a T - 56 assault rifle had been recovered from them. Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Police arrested two youths, M.Mayurathan, 17, and K.Viji, 16, in Eravur, about 15 km. from Batticaloa, this morning. The police said that they were arrested in connection with the grenade attack at Mylambaveli, 5 km. north of Batticaloa, yesterday. Two policemen were wounded in the attack. Four civilians were wounded when the police retaliated by firing at random.
