The JVP, a left wing party, organised a demonstration in front of the US embassy in Colombo and Five students reported missing in Jaffna.

JVP protest at NATO bombing

About a thousand young people joined in a demonstration outside the US embassy at around 11.00 a.m. today protesting against NATO military operations in Yugoslavia.

The demonstration was organised by the People's Liberation Front (JVP), a left wing party, and led by the JVP's information secretary, Wimal Weeravanse.

The Police at first denied permission for the demonstration as the embassy building is situated close to the Sri Lankan President's residence and in an area that has been declared a high security zone.

Five Jaffna students reported 'missing'

Five schoolchildren in Jaffna have been reported missing since May 11, said sources. Their parents have informed the Human Rights Commission (HRC).

Following are the names of the students who have been reported missing:

1.Kanakaratnam Gjn,17, student of Athiyaar Hindu College

2.Thmbirasa Jeyaroopan,18, student of Athiyaar Hindu College

3.Velayutham Pratheepan,17,student of Athiyaar Hindu College

4.Kanthasamy Rajakannan,17, student of Jaffna Hindu College

5. Rajathurai Nero,18, Kopi Christian College

The number of school students being arrested has increased, said parents.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army personnel stationed at the Urelu camp in Jaffna arrested Thurasingham Mohanarasa, 27, of Kopai road, Urumparai, today.
