Twelve arrests in Jaffna

The Sri Lankan Security Forces arrested 12 people in the northern Jaffna peninsula on Saturday and Sunday (May 15 and 16), on suspicion that they have been rendering help the Liberation Tigers, said human rights sources.
The following were arrested on May 15:
1. Thurasingam Mohanarasa, 27, Urumpirai South, Urumpirai
2. Selvarasa Nanthakumar, 21, Campus road, Kokkuvil
3. Sivalingam Vakeesan, 16, Madduvil South, Madduvil
4. Vivekananthan Jeyarasa, 21, Potpathy road, Kokkuvil
5. Balasunthiram Balamayooran, 22, Urumpirai South, Urumpirai
6. Kumarasooriyar Uthayasooriyar, 24, Potpathy road, Kokkuvil,
7. Suntharalingam Vipulananthan, 21, Delft
8. Nadesan Uthayakumar, 26, Thaavady South
The following were arrested on May 16:
1. Nanthakopal Pirakash, 18, Potpathy road, Kokkuvil
2. Muththulingam Jeyakanthan, 22, Kodavil
3. Kathirkamathamby Sreekanthan, 49, Potpathy road, Kokkuvil
4. Chellaiah Logeswaran, 25, Sangarappillai road, Aanaikkoddai
They are being detained at the Sri Lanka Army's Achchelu Brigade HeadQuarters.
Meanwhile Vasanthanathan Jeganathan, 21, of Kaithady in Jaffna has been reported missing since yesterday. His relatives have informed the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna.
Elsewhere in Jaffna, K.Thavarajah,44, an employee at the Agricultural Department was severely assaulted and threatened by the Sri Lanka Army at Uduvil on May 16, around 7 p.m.
