All refugees currently living at the refugee camps in Madhu and Thatchanamadhu will be vacated and the camps will be closed before May 28, said the Government Agent of Mannar, Mr. M.Cruze.
Refugees from the Jaffna peninsula are being transported in busses to the eastern port of Trincomalee and by ships from there to the north. The ship "Lanka Muditha" is expected to sail with about 1000 civilians, including 576 refugees from the Madhu area to Jaffna, said government officials. The ship is expected to arrive at the northern port of Pt.Pedro and then return to Trincomalee to transport more refugees on Friday, said officials in Trincomalee. Extra buses have also been brought to Mannar from Anuradhapura to transport refugees.
