Decomposed body recovered from abandon well in Jaffna

A dead body of a man in his early 50s was recovered Wednesday in Urumpiraay, at Yoakapuram, an agricultural village situated between Palaali Road and Raasa Veethi, behind Heroes Cemetery in Koappaay, which has now been bulldozed and transformed into a camp by the occupying Sri Lankan forces. The face has been destroyed beyond identification. Three persons have been reported missing in the recent days in the area.

A teacher has been abducted, a family man of five children and an auto driver are reported missing.

Residents said they spotted the body in decomposed state when they became suspicious of foul odour coming from the well.

The villagers, who have been earlier working at the Heroes Cemetery complain that they are being harassed by the Sri Lanka Army, which is now shifting its 51-2 division military base and headquarters to that area.

The army, already occupying the grounds, has been harassing the villagers in an attempt to seize the village and annex it with the military complex, sources in the area said.
