Cholera patient dies in the Vanni

One suspected cholera patient died at Pallamadu on Tuesday and four patients with the symptoms of cholera have been admitted to the Mallavi and Mulangavil hospitals in the Vanni, said sources at the Department of Health.

T.Rasanayagam, the Government Agent in Kilinochchi, said that strict preventive measures have been adopted in the area in consultation with health authorities while officials from Medicine Sans Frontiers (MSF) have said that they will provide a small stock of essential drugs to aid the effort.

He further said that he had contacted the Government Agent in Mannar to arrange for immediate preventive measures that would eradicate the danger of a cholera epidemic in the Pallamadu area.
