EPC employees not paid flood relief salary advance

Sri Lanka General Employees Union (SLGEU) accused the Chief Minister of Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) and the ruling party members for not taking action over the failure to provide flood relief salary advance to employees coming under the EPC due to contradictory circulars issued by the Provincial Governor and the Chief Secretary of the EPC, according to a memorandum sent by SLGEU to the Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapakse. SLGEU President Mr.S.Loganathan and Secretary Mr.I.M.Ibralebbe have signed the memorandum.
Instructions have been issued by authorities concerned to grant three months’ salary advance to flood affected employees of EPC before the end of 31. The Provincial Governor in a circular issued on February 28 had stated that all salary advance applications should be twice investigated and certified by respective Divisional Secretary. However, the EPC Chief Secretary had stated in his circular dated on February 23 that provincial treasury has no funds to pay salary advance. The contradictory circulars issued by the Governor and Chief Secretary have made employees to lose confidence on the Mahinda Chinthanaya. Hence the head of the country should immediately intervene and instruct relevant authority to pay salary advance to provincial employees as being paid to central government employees, the memorandum further states.
