Residents succeed in protest against SLA checkpost in Mannaar village

The Sri Lanka Army had abandoned its move to set up a sentry in Pa'l'limunai village in Mannaar district Sunday due to vehement protest by residents. A group of SLA soldiers had gathered near the water tank in the village on Sunday morning and had been making arrangement to establish a sentry point.

Neighbouring families rushed to the nearby church and alerted the village by ringing the church bell.

Villagers in large number gathered at the site and protested against the SLA move to set up the sentry point that later led to heated argument with the soldiers on duty.

Protesting villagers requested SLA officials who rushed to the site on receipt of information of the unrest in the area against setting up sentry point.

The SLA later abandoned its move and packed up all materials brought to set up the sentry point and left the area due to protest by villagers.
