SL Army in Jaffna harasses JVP campaigners from South

After curbing the Tamil National Alliance from conducting campaign meetings ahead of civic elections in North, the occupying Sri Lanka Army of Mahinda Rajapaksa regime now harasses the other opposition parties that come from the South for election campaign. The JVP campaigners in Jaffna told media Thursday that a Brigadier rank officer of the SL military headquarters in Palaali in Jaffna had phoned and threatened them when they went to the SL Police to complain against the harassments by the SLA soldiers.

A group of JVP members from South had come to Vaatharavaththai in Valikaamam East with Ramalingham Chandrasekaran, a former JVP parliamentarian from the South. During their campaign, four SLA men in civil clothes began harassing the JVP members. The JVP, at a press conference in Jaffna said that their campaigners were stopped at four different locations and were harassed by the SLA soldiers who were conducting body checking.

The JVP, which opposes the nationhood of Eezham Tamils and was aligned with Mahinda Rajapaksa in the war against the Tamils, is now exploiting the plight of Tamil families, especially the relatives and families of the missing persons, allege Tamil politicians.

JVP members from South, campaigning in Ki'linochchi have also complained earlier that they had been harassed by the SL Army soldiers in the town. The ruling Rajapaksa regime had used the SLA in Ki'linochchi to remove the posters put up by the JVP there, the JVP campaigners complained.
