The Additional Magistrate of Jaffna Mr. Ekanathan postponed the hearing of the exhumation of Duraiappa stadium grave in the Jaffna town yesterday.
The judge said that the experts requested by the courts to proceed with the exhumation have informed the registrar that they could not be present.. The court had requested the assistance of Prof. Niriellage Chandasiri (Forensic Medicine), Prof. K.A.Nandasene (Soil scince) and Ananda Mendis (Chemical Analysis). The judge ordered the police to provide security to the stadium gravesite. He further ordered the police to submit the photos taken from the site to the courts before June 29 as requested by the JMO in Colombo. Meanwhile five persons arrested in Columbuththurai in Jaffna on May 25 were not produced in the courts violating the courts order. The court had informed the police on June 14 to produce them yesterday. However, when the case was taken up for hearing, the police told that detainees had been produced at Mallakam courts and had been released. The judge told the police that those arrested within the judicial area of the Jaffna courts shall be produced in Jaffna courts. The judge issued summons to the ASP, Ranjith Perea to appear before the courts on June 25 to explain why they were not produced before the Jaffna courts, even though the Jaffna courts was functioning.
