Kilinochchi G.A urges President to open route.

T.Rasanayagam, the Government Agent in Kilinochchi, has asked the Sri Lankan President to make immediate arrangements to open a land route to the LTTE held areas of the Vanni.

The route is needed to transport seriously ill patients to other parts of the Vanni and to transport question papers for the GCE Advance Level examinations that are set to start on August 2, he said.

In fax message to the President, the Kilinochchi GA has pointed out that 5 patients at Kilinochchi hospital and 8 patients at Mulankaavil hospital have died as they could not be transferred to hospitals out of the Vanni for further treatment.

He has also pointed out to the President that many more patients are awaiting an ambulance service to go to the Vavuniya and Anuradhapura hospitals for further treatment.

Meanwhile, N.Amirthalingam, the President of the Multi Purpose Co-operative Society in Thunukkaai has said that all the retail outlets of the Society are empty without foodstuff to distribute among the displaced people.

The VoT also announced on its nightly news bulletin last night that all the bakeries in the Vanni are going to stop baking bread as the stock of flour and other ingredients have finished.
