Muslims to oppose new province

Muslims outside the Ampara district have reacted strongly to the proposal for a south east province made by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader, MR. M.H.M.Ashroff and organized a petition against it.

The Organisation for the Rights of the Islamic community in the North and East has been making arrangements to collect 100 000 signatures from members of the Islamic community opposing the act.

In a press conference held in Kattankudi, the organisation underlined its stance that any suggestion for a solution should fulfill the interests and the aspirations of the Tamil and the Muslim communities of the North and East together.

The Organisation's leader, M.M.Abdul Rahman, said they would object to any divisive strategies.
