CID seeks SLA evidence

Mannar District Courts Judge M, Ilancheliyan Tuesday ordered the commanders of 21-2 Brigade in Mannar and 21-1 Brigade in Vavuniya to hand over any evidence connected to the suspects in the murder of Ida Hamilitta, to the CID officials who are now in charge of the case.
Ida Hamilitta a Tamil young woman of Pallimunai in Mannar island was raped and murdered allegedly by soldiers of the SLA camp in Pallimunai on July 11. When the case was taken up for hearing at the courts Tuesday, the CID officials made an application through the courts to be given any evidence in SLA possession about those suspected of involvement. The magistrate accepted the motion and ordered the officials concerned to inform the relevant SLA officials to assist the CID officials as requested. The CID requested in their motion that the SLA produce any suspects, who are detained in military custody in this connection, to the CID head quarters in Colombo, so their statements may be recorded. The magistrate had given two weeks time for this to be carried out and postponed the case till August 17.
