Tamil groups asked to leave politics

A group of leading Jaffna traders have urged the TULF and the EPDP to keep away from politics until Sri Lanka's ruling PA reaches an agreement with the Liberation Tigers about an acceptable settlement to the island's ethnic conflict.

The group of traders held talks with a junior leader of the TULF last week to explain their position.

The junior TULF leader, who currently holds a key post in the party's affairs for the northern peninsula, told the delegation of traders that he would discuss the matter with the TULF's politburo first.

A member of Jaffna traders' delegation said that they had had useful talks with the EPDP leader, Douglas Devananda, and that they are in regular contact with him.
