SL presidential election to be held on January 08, 2015[TamilNet, Friday, 21 November 2014, 16:16 GMT]The Sri Lankan presidential election will be held on January 08, 2015, according to the gazette notification issued by the SL Election Commissioner Mahinda Desapriya on Friday. According to officials of the SL department nominations for the presidential race are to be called on December 08, news sources in Colombo said. Maithripala Sirisena, the SL Minister of Health and the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has announced on Friday that he will be confronting Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming elections. Sirisena has vowed to abolish the executive presidential system within one hundred days after assuming office and to appoint the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister, news sources in Colombo said.
