EPDP accused of grenade attack on Jaffna daily

The People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) charged today that the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) was responsible for the grenade attack on the office of the Jaffna daily, the Uthayan, on August 21.

In a statement issued to the press this afternoon, the PLOTE's deputy leader and military wing commander, Manikkadaasan, says that his group had come to know the facts about the attack on the Uthayan through its own intelligence and from sources inside the EPDP itself.

The PLOTE states that the EPDP had carried out the attack the day after a story criticising the TELO had appeared in the Uthayan.

According the PLOTE statement, this was done with the aim of passing the blame for the attack on the TELO.

"While strongly condemning the EPDP's action, we have asked the Jaffna army commander to immediately hold a complete inquiry into this matter" says Manikkadaasan in his press release.
