Tigers hit Amparai police

The Liberation Tigers attacked Akaraipattu police station in Amparai district last night at 10.30 p.m with small arms.

Eighty Sri Lankan policemen were said to have been at the location, but many bolted as soon as firing stated, said sources in Amparai.

The firefight is said to have lasted for an hour. Two policemen were wounded, said sources close to the police.

It is not known if the LTTE sustained any casualties.

Meanwhile in Jaffna, two Sri Lankan soldiers were killed last evening in a fire-fight between the Liberation Tigers and the SLA in Kopay, north of Jaffna town.

Reports from Jaffna say that sporadic gunfire and grenade explosions could be heard in various parts of the town.

"Some artillery shells fired from Sri Lankan Army camp fell in Swamiar Road in Columbuthurai last evening" said sources in Jaffna. Casualties have not been reported.
