Chandran Kali (25), a former member of the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front who is working with the Sri Lanka Army's Intelligence Unit, and his friend Mariyathas Suman (21) were killed in a bomb blast around 12.15 a.m. this morning said sources.
This explosion took place when they were sleeping in an abandoned dilapidated building on Puthur-Thimalaitheivu road in Batticaloa. Both the deceased were from Puthur area, residents said. Sri Lankan security sources believe that the Liberation Tigers were responsible for the blast. However, the neighbours told a TamilNet correspondent who visited the scene this morning that a bomb in their possession might have exploded accidentally. The two were under the influence of liquor the preceding night, they said. Several SLA personnel, cadres of PLOTE and Razeek group rushed to the scene, residents said. Chandran Kali was earlier a member of the Razik group, ex-militant sources said.
