Civilian traffic from Vanni

Four hundred and twenty six stranded people arrived in Vavuniya from LTTE-held areas today, Kachcheri Officials in Vavuniya said. They follow the arrival of 560 people on Monday who entered Vavuniya under escort by ICRC officials.

K.Ganesh the Government Agent in Vavuniya said that his office hadn't received any information on the movement of people through the Mankulam Civilian Security Zone tomorrow or the next day.

"However, we have decided to register the names of those who wish to travel to the LTTE-held areas in the Vanni to attend funerals or any other urgent family matters. We have decided to forward the name list to the LTTE through the ICRC to seek permission for about 300 people who are now waiting in Vavuniya area to travel to the Vanni" the GA added.
