Araipattai STF camp attacked

The Liberation Tigers attacked the Special Task Force camp at Araipattai, five miles south of Batticaloa around 10 p.m. last night. The exchange of fire went on till 11 p.m.

The TELO also joined the STF in the defensive fire.

Residents in the vicinity ran for cover when the firing erupted, fearing a major attack.

The LTTE's commando group came through the inner road to Araipattai from Batticaloa said residents.

The TELO maintains its own camp by the side of the STF detachment which is on the border between the large Muslim village of Kattankudy and Araipattai which is a densely populated Tamil village.

There were no casualties on either side.
