Colombo wants to mark ancient villages in East as ‘Sinhala Buddhist’ villages

[TamilNet, Friday, 01 March 2019, 21:52 GMT]
SL Minister of Internal Home Affairs, Provincial Council and Local Government Mr Wajira Abeywardhana has instructed the district secretariats in the three districts of the Eastern Province to declare each village having at least one Sinhala Buddhist family as a Buddhist village, highly placed civil sources at the Trincomalee District Secretariat told TamilNet on Friday. Mr Abeywardhana is a UNP politician, who hails from the Galle District in the South. The UNP is following the footsteps of notorious Cyril Mathew (1912 - 1989), an outright racist UNP politician who was the SL Minister of Industry and Scientific Affairs (1977 - 1986) under J.R. Jayewardene, commented the civil sources at Trincomalee District Secretariat.

The SL Minister has explicitly instructed the DS Secretaries to compose a list of villages, where at least one Sinhala Buddhist family had lived or owned a property before the times of the war. The instruction has come through the secretary of the minister, they said.

Furthermore, the DS officials have also been asked to ‘identify’ the villages consisting of heritage artefacts, monuments and temples that could be ‘considered’ as traces of Buddhist shrines from the past.

Any village with a trace that could be interpreted as a Buddhist trace, even if it belonged to Tamil or Mahayana Buddhist tradition of the ancient times, is to be regarded as a Sinhala Theravada Buddhist property according to the majority of the South.

When contacted by TamilNet, District Secretariat sources in Batticaloa said that the trend was observed in the border villages of Batticaloa with Ampaa'rai and Polonnaruwa districts. The divisional secretariats of the bordering divisions from the Sinhala-dominated districts are working behind their back, they said.

The Sinhalicisation of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa heritage has become a significant trend among the Sinhala extremist sections, and all the major political parties in the south are absorbed into the paradigm, which is nothing other than an accelerated heritage-genocide targeting Eezham Tamils at the moment, the officials in Batticaloa said.

Many of the Tamil people uprooted from the border villages are still languishing in the overseas refugee camps in the state of Tamil Nadu, India, they pointed out.

The Sinhala encroachers from Ampaa'rai district have heavily colonised the entire GS division of Kachchatkodi Swami-malai, located along the border to Ampaa'rai district. Around 365 Sinhalese families are presently living in Kevu’liyaa-madu village, and two Buddhist temples are serving them. The monks advance the colonisation from Pulukunawa Rajamaha Viharaya in Ampaa'rai, the officials said adding that the Sinhala politicians were patronising the monks at Pulukunawa.

The ‘development’ paradigm being promoted by the West and China alike and the New Delhi based Establishment with its extremist Hindutva ideology are also abetting genocidal Sri Lanka to accomplish the heritage genocide against the Eezham Tamils.
