SL TID detains outspoken Tamil doctor at Pazhai hospital
[TamilNet, Sunday, 18 August 2019, 23:50 GMT]
The notorious ‘Terrorist’ Investigation Division (TID) of occupying Colombo’s SL Police has detained a Tamil doctor, 41-year-old Sinniah Sivaruban, who is the medical superintendent of the Divisional Hospital of Pazhai in Jaffna peninsula on Sunday night. The father of three was on duty and was on his way to hospital from a field trip around 10:00 pm., when the SL Army intelligence wing detained him at Elephant Pass and handed him over to the TID. The doctor was taken to the hospital where a raid was carried out. The TID was alleging that the devoted doctor was engaged in ‘reviving the LTTE’ with Tamil diaspora links, eyewitnesses at the hospital told TamilNet.
The doctor has been harassed and transferred earlier as he didn’t hesitate to speak up the truth to the media when he served as a Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Mr Sivaruban was detained in Jaffna and the SL TID was scheduled to transport him to Colombo on Monday, informed sources in Jaffna said Monday morning. The TID wants to silence the doctor from maintaining contacts with the outside world, a close friend of the doctor said. It is under Sivarooban’s leadership that the hospital has seen a positive development in recent times, the source further said. Pazhai is a small town located 35 km south of Jaffna city in Pachchilaip-pa'l'li administrative division in Ki’linochchi district.
