GMOA deploys “genocidal society” attitude against Tamil specialist on epidemics
[TamilNet, Saturday, 18 April 2020, 15:54 GMT]
The secretary of SL Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Dr Haritha Aluthge, a Sinhalese, has baselessly attacked Consultant Community Physician (CCP) Dr Murali Vallipuranathan, an outspoken Tamil from North. Without providing any credible evidence, Aluthge was blaming Murali Vallipuranathan for “unacceptable & controversial conduct during the present COVID-19 pandemic situation” and was accusing the UK-trained Tamil specialist on epidemics of “expressing views detrimental to the Health Department & Sri Lanka Army”. The GMOA Secretary was also claiming that Dr Vallipuranathan had a “controversial & racist previous history”. The GMOA letter, dated 17 April, comes after Vallipuranthan’s case studies called into question the “dormitory” type of COVID-19 isolation centres on 06 April and on 15 April.

Dr Murali Vallipuranathan raised credible scientific questions in the document titled “Inaction of Medical Professional Bodies to intervene in the dormitory type of Isolation Centres leads to cross infections of Corona Virus” on 15 April.
He was not making any reference to the ethnicity of the victims, nor was he pointing the finger at the SL military that operates these centres.
Dr Vallipuranathan posted his case studies on Facebook without any political comments.
However, the GMOA Secretary was politicising the issue in his letter dated 17 April.

“Dr Vallipuranathan was in fact appointed by the Director-General of the SL Health Ministry Anil Jasinghe in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic. The GMOA Secretary is politicising the issue,” a Tamil physician at Jaffna Teaching Hospital told TamilNet on Saturday.
The physician pointed out that Dr Vallipuranathan was sacked in 2009 by the same SL Ministry for speaking out on the conditions on the detention camps where Eezham Tamils were held in captivity.
The GMOA, a trade union of the government sector society of health workers, is attacking Vallipuranathan reminding of his criticism against the SL State in the past, even though the SL Health Ministry was now prepared to post him to the North.
In his letter addressed to SL Director General (DG) of Health Service Dr Anil Jasinghe, Aluthge was calling into question the decision of the DG of posting Vallipuranathan to Jaffna “without consulting the specialist grade transfer board”.
The highly biased and controversial characterisation originating from the GMOA Secretary is a reminder to Eezham Tamils of the kind of “genocidal community” that exists in the island in tandem with the “genocidal state,” commented the Tamil physician at the Jaffna Hospital.
The inter-relationship between the genocidal community and the genocidal state is a manifestation of Mahawansa mindset, which is the ideology behind the Tamil genocide and the escalating anti-Muslim tendency in the island, the physician commented.
The GMOA has highly capable experts whom Dr Aluthge should have consulted before writing this letter and leaking it to the social media, the Tamil doctors in Jaffna said.
Vallipuranathan was not available to comment on the GMOA letter. However, in a comment published in Facebook, he said: “Case study is an accepted scientific method of research and arriving at a valid conclusion. Unfortunately we are dealing with a group of trade unionists who have no specialized knowledge in epidemiology or research methods who talk about pandemic control in the TV and other media.”
