Gotabaya Rajapaksa is no more US-citizen, but SL military relationship with US continues[TamilNet, Friday, 08 May 2020, 23:50 GMT]SL President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name has finally appeared in the Federal Register of the US Government, which publishes a quarterly list of individuals, who have chosen to expatriate. Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s name appeared in the list issued on Friday. Mr Gotabaya was commanding the genocidal war against Eezham Tamils as a US citizen with a well-knit link with the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon in the run up to the genocidal onslaught in the island. Mr Gotabaya was also the signatory of a defence agreement with the US in 2007, which lasted till 2017. The Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA), entered in 2007 by Mahinda Rajapaksa’s regime was signed by the then SL Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and US Ambassador Robert O Blake Jr., before the genocidal onslaught on Eezham Tamils. 
“The Sri Lankan government does have supporters in the U.S., particularly in military circles. Senior officials told me that their government owed much to a Pentagon official named James Clad, ‘a great friend of Sri Lanka.’ Clad was the Bush Administration’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia, in charge of the Pentagon’s dealings with India and Sri Lanka, until he was replaced by the Obama Administration in January 2009,” wrote John Lee Anderson in Newyorker.com back in 2011. Professor James Clad was invited by Gotabaya Rajapaksa to give the keynote address at the inaugural Galle Dialogue in 2010 when Blake served the Obama administration as the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs.  Former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense James Clad, who was previously in-charge of Defense/Security affairs for Asia Pacific from 2007 to 2009 in the administration of Republican President George W. Bush, was seated at the inaugural Galle Dialogue in 2010 [far right] while SL Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was delivering inauguration address. James Clad delivered the keynote address. In 2016, he was backing Hillary Clinton in the U.S. election even though he served under a Republican president. He is currently a senior fellow for Asia at the American Foreign Policy Council in Washington DC
Even today, Gotabaya Rajapaksa is continuing SL military-to-military relationship with the US despite his talk of non-alignment. In March 2020, a US Army Special Forces (Green Berets) team attached to the US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) was present in Trincomalee amidst the Corona pandemic. The team was conducting a four-week-long training with two notorious wartime formations of the occupying navy of genocidal Sri Lanka. In December 2019, Commander of the SL Air Force (SLAF) Air Marshal Dambure Liyanage Sumangala Dias, took part in the Pacific Air Chiefs Symposium (PACS 19) of the USINDOPACOM.
