2020 election resembles 1970 polls that formed genocidal Sri Lanka

The SLFP led by Srimao Bandaranaike replaced the British drafted Ceylon constitution doing away even the minimal and symbolic safeguards for external justice through the Privy Council of the United Kingdom. Enacting a unitary constitution without the democratic mandate of Eezham Tamils, Ceylon was transformed unilaterally into genocidal Sri Lanka by the Sinhala politicians. Now, the SLFP is replaced by the SLPP, ten years after genocidal annihilation of the armed movement and the de-facto state of Tamil Eelam. The SLPP is poised to enact a constitutional discourse emboldening the unitary state towards the final phase of heritage and structural genocide in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils. As far as the Eezham Tamils are concerned, there is very little left for them to achieve within the scope of SL Parliamentary politics.

The Eezham Tamils should evolve their leadership outside the avenue of the SL Parliament more rationally and boldly than how the younger generation of the 1970s shaped the direction of Thanthai SJV Chelvanayakam between 1972 and 1977.

The objective must be achieving last resort remedy of international justice through resistance-inspired orientation than placing their trust in God or Geopolitics.

Eezham Tamil voters have placed an enormous responsibility on the shoulders of Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam of the TNPF and Justice CV Wigneswaran of the TMTK in course-correcting the ITAK-led Quisling politics of R. Sampanthan and M.A. Sumathiran.

However, Eezham Tamils need to focus beyond parliamentary politics, taking historical lessons from the period that followed 1972 and not leave the matter to the elected politicians alone.

SJV Chelvanayakam declared in 1970 that “only God can help the Tamils”.

Back then, the younger generation realised the reality that even God couldn’t help Tamils. The only way left was resistance, and that enabled them to challenge the genocidal state for three decades effectively.

Now, the Tamil parliamentary politicians, through their 2020 manifestos seem to imply that “only Geopolitics can help Tamils”.

The key to future success lies in realising that only a new form of resistance with an international dimension could effectively challenge the genocidal state and the geopolitical abettors of ‘development’ crimes.

The Tamil diaspora and global Tamils also have a historical duty in this regard.

They should not succumb to the remote parliamentary politics of genocidal Sri Lanka.

Instead, they should contribute meaningfully to advance the struggle of the nation of Eezham Tamils to exercise its right of self-determination and to ensure international justice for genocide without succumbing to the bandwagoning of any sort that fails to recognise Tamils Right for Self-Determination.

Embracing an offensive mode of mindset would help Tamils to withstand the Rajapaksa-led unitary state of genocidal Sri Lanka and enable them to advance the Tamil cause for self-determination and freedom beyond the clutches of power politics of any geographical setting.
