SLBC frequency retrained
[TamilNet, Monday, 11 October 1999, 19:36 GMT]
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) is restrained from transmitting on 98.8 and 102 MHz as it interferes with the transmission of Tamil programme 'Kalai Oli' by the Colombo Communications Ltd according to an order was issued by Colombo District Judge Kumar Ekaratne, today.
President's Counsel S.A.Parathalingam argued that the International Telecommunication Union regulations require minimum channel spacing for VHF/FM broadcasting assignments at 400 KHz, while the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has considered the channel spacing at 300 KHz between two adjacent channels with overlapping services areas as adequate. Mr.Parathalingam complained that the frequency separation between Tamil 'Kalai Oli' programme and the Sinhala channel of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation is only 200 KHz resulting in interference.
